The water represents the air. The shaving cream is the clouds forming in the sky and the food coloring is the water droplets. As the clouds become heavy with water droplets, rain falls.
Very simple and fun science experiment to spark your little ones interest in science. Follow the steps below to make your own rain cloud.
- Clear jar
- Shaving cream
- Food coloring (blue)
- 1. Fill the jar with water.
- 2. Add a thin layer of shaving cream.
- 3. Have your little one place drops of food coloring on top of shaving cream and watch the rain fall.
For further play, use different food coloring and enjoy all the colors fall down as rain creating a rainbow. We ended up doing it several times, because Sophie loved watching it.
