Play Dough Fun!

Letter Trace on Play-dough Mat

Letter A activity. Using play dough to trace upper- and lower-case letters. We also made an apple craft to go along with our letter. Playing with homemade play dough is an easy to set up activity that helps promote sensory play, endless open-ended fun and strengthens fine motor skills. Play dough can be used to provide imaginative play, social interactions and language development.

Homemade Play Dough Recipe

I use this simple recipe that provides hours of fun and can also be stored to use for couple of months.

Materials:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 Tbsp oil (coconut oil)
  • 1 Tbsp cream of tartar
  • 1 cup warm water with food color of choice

Instructions:

  • -Mix on low heat for 1-2 minutes adding water as needed until it is completely mixed.
  • -Take it out and knead the dough as needed.

*Keep it in a Ziploc bag so it won’t dry out.

*I just add the food color to my water, but if you want more than one color from this batch, make the play dough and separate as much as you like in a Ziploc bag, then add food color and mix.
Have fun making some nice colorful play dough!
